Daniel's Fast - Day 5

Today wasn't too bad. :) I started our dinner in the crock pot before I headed out to work, so it was done when we got home. It was great to get back to work, but today was super long as I had class tonight. I, along with my teaching team, could use an extra work day....we made major changes for the last half on the school year. The extra day would be nice to get organized. But, oh well...

So, enough of that - here is the run down of our eats today.

Breakfast: I had a banana. Steve had a banana with almond butter. Kriz, well I don't know what time he got up, but he mentioned that he did eat Panda Puffs for breakfast/lunch.

Lunch: Steve enjoyed a salad from Trader Joe's and I enjoyed leftovers of the leek/spinach soup.

Dinner: We had vegetarian chili....it wasn't bad, but not the chili I am accustomed to. We can definitely eat it.

I know this hasn't been the best reading, but with such a long day, I'm exhausted.

Daniel Fast - Day 4

Wow, today has been very blah. I don't know if it is due to weather or the "hump" of the fast. To let you know how blah....I guess I turned off my alarm for church rather than snoozing it. I slept until 10:30 - yikes! When I did decide to join the land of the living, I battled the headache off and on all day. This weather isn't helping anything - these gray, damp days are for the pits.

Today has been easy to do with the fast. Partly because I slept most of the day, I haven't ate much. I didn't have any breakfast or lunch. I did snack on some chips and pineapple/mango salsa. Steve did enjoy a natural peanut butter and jelly (all natural) sandwich on sprouted bread. Kriz enjoyed a bowl of Panda Puffs.

I have to say that in previous years with fasting, Kriz would typically whine, moan, and complain. But this year, he has helped with shopping, looking for recipes, and cooking. Tonight was one of these times. He found a recipe and cooked it!

Our dinner:

This was so yummy! We all went back for seconds. It is made with whole wheat bowtie noodles, green beans, a sliced red potato, pesto, and olive oil.

Tomorrow will be interesting - we all go back to work. AHHHH! I will definitely keep the water handy to help me feel full.

Daniel's Fast - Day 3

Day three hasn't been too bad - as long as there are restrooms around. I'm glad that we begin earlier to  try to get our minds and bodies more prepared before we all return to the normal routine of work and school. So, here is the run down of today's eats.

Breakfast: I made pancakes!! Of course they were different than I typically make. Today I used 3 ingredients: bananas, eggs, and cinnamon. We used coconut and peanut spread for our "syrup." LOL! Here are the pictures. As I have stated before, we do more of a vegetarian fast, so we do include eggs into our foods.

Lunch/supper: Steve and I actually enjoyed the day out and about running errands in the lovely weather (ha!). Since we were near the Oconee Connecter, we went to Taqueria Tsunami and enjoyed their edamame and garden tacos. Yes, everything was fast approved with the exception of the itsy-bitsy soft shell. I got the garbanzo bean salad as my side and Steve got the cucumber salad. It isn't easy finding fast items at restaurants, but it makes you really look at menus to find the options that are available. I wouldn't have ordered what I did if it wasn't for me being mindful of my commitment to the fast.  Since Kriz stayed home, he enjoyed a veggie/hummus wrap that we had picked up at Trader Joe's. Have I mentioned how awesome that place is to shop during the fast??

I haven't been as hungry today - I will have to say that all the water I have consumed has kept me quite full. That's the trick, but need to know where the nearest restrooms are! 😄

Daniel's Fast - Day 2

Today was much better than yesterday, well except for the weather. The dreary, rainy day had me unmotivated. But luckily I had an eye appointment that got me out. I used that excuse to swing by Trader Joe's (amazing place to shop during the fast).

Today's eating experience:
Well, I didn't do a "breakfast." Due to migraines, I continue to have my daily dose of caffeine. Though, my body must know there is something different going on as I battled a headache today. What I did do was snacked on pistachios and some yummy mango/pineapple salsa with fast approved corn chips. When I was away at the appointment, Kriz enjoyed his kale salad along with snacking on corn chips.

For supper, I made this yummy Leek and spinach soup which I found on City Girl - Country Girl's blog on Pinterest. Actually, she has a wonderful set up of different menu ideas for the fast. http://karyn-wells.blogspot.com/2012/01/21-day-daniel-fast_08.html

For devotions, we are using our Bible app with Youversion. It has been good so far. The first two days has reminded us of why and what we are fasting. Daniel 10:12 spoke to me the most last night. It reminded me that God has already heard and knows of our fasting needs. As it states. "Since the first day that you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to them." Fasting is humbling and I am thankful God will respond during this season. I am truly excited to see what He has in store for our family this year. The excitement bubbles up each time I think of it.

Starting the Year off with Daniel's Fast - Day 1

Today is the first day of 2015. With this, our family kicked off the Daniel's Fast. Within the next 21 days, we will set aside time for devotion and prayer (as well as becoming creative with meal planning). We will embark on no meats, no sweets, and no breads. Water will be our constant companion. We can't wait to see what God has in store for our family this year.

As many that struggle with fasting and what to eat and not eat; I felt the need to blog our journey this year. Our family doesn't get caught up in the what to eat/what not to eat debate - we make sacrifices for us with how and what we eat. Our main focus is to devote time and energy to prayer and devotions while also denying our bodies of the common society food that we have become accustomed to. We hope this blog will be inspiring as we share our daily meals and all that God has done for us throughout 2015.

Day 1: It is funny how when you begin a fast, your body seems to know. I am hardly hungry first thing in the morning, but today - I could have eaten tons! I'm going to have to work on that. ;)

Breakfast - consisted of half a banana, 1 tbsp. of almond butter, 1 tbsp. of coconut milk.  Kriz opted for steel cut oatmeal with coconut milk and blueberries.

Lunch - well, we snacked on nuts and water. But due to the recipe that Kriz wanted to make, it took longer than expected.

Dinner - Because of the above, our lunch and dinner turned into a 3 course meal. LOL! Kriz and I had a blast working together in the kitchen. Course 1 and 2 were all his. :)
Course 1: Kale salad with carrot and lemon. Kriz made the dressing from fresh lemon juice, mustard, olive oil, and a tad of plain yogurt. To say the least, it was quite lemony, but good!
Course 2: (This was a bit off the fast, but Kriz had already had the ingredients to make this before today - it just didn't get made til today). Kriz made some sort of pumpkin puff pastry. The pumpkin filling was pumpkin, fresh sage, fresh garlic, heated through with a cinnamon stick. These puffs were quite interesting.
Course 3: Cabbage steaks with black-eyed peas. This was our New Year's meal. Everything was quite delicious and we have our first day under our belts. Yeah!! :)

I hope that this blog will help with planning of the meals - of course most of the meal ideas are Pinterest inspired.
